As far as I remember, I haven't sent anonymous gifts, I've always given them in a personal way, and when I give a gift, it's mostly to my family.
I don't give gifts like that, when I'm going to give something I do it directly, it's more like you say, it prevents gifts in unknowns from reaching other hands

No, never done. I myself once received an anonymous card from someone on Valentine's Day and also an anonymous letter with a declaration of love, but that wasn't on Valentine's Day. I got it delivered to work at the time.
