In 1869, the last wolf was seen at Schinveld in South Limburg and possibly a few decades later, in 1897, another one at Heeze in the province of Noord-Brabant. Due to intensive persecution, the wolf had previously disappeared from large parts of the Netherlands.

The fact that there are wolves in the Netherlands again means that our nature is doing better.
