Dinosaur crafting with paper plates
There were a lot of species around 245 million years ago. Some dinosaurs were 11 meters high and 30 meters long! Did you know that the word dinosaur is derived from Greek? It literally confesses “terrible lizard”. Many of the dinosaurs were herbivores, but there were also meat eaters. The Stegosaurus was a herbivorous, you can see that by his teeth. It had a length of 9 meters, and weighed 2 tons. The name Stegosaurus means “covered lizard.”
His back was “covered” with hardened plates. These leg plates on his back were not for protection against predators, but served as “air conditioning”, as heat control. The skin of the plates was probably full of blood vessels. When he stood in the sun, his body warmed up quickly. However, if the temperature rose too high, he could cool down by standing with his plates in the wind. He controlled this so could his body temperature.
Below I tried to make a simple Stegosaurus dino, from 1 paper plate and 1 toilet roll. Of course, some paint, scissors and a stapler. And what might be surprising: a piece of bubble wrap!
With bubble wrap you can make the print on the plate. You do this as follows: Take a piece of eg 25x25cm, and do some tricks of paint in the middle: 2 colors green and some brown. Fold the plastic and knead it a little so that the paint is everywhere on the buds. Pull it open again and lay it flat. Now take your plate and “stamp” the plate a few times on the foil, until your plate has paint everywhere. Roll your toilet roll over the stubs.
The parts are made together with stapler, it's really easy. I changed the head a bit later, made a little longer, but every cup is of course fine. Nobody knows exactly what they looked like, so just make your own fantasy dinosaur, everything is allowed!
