Given that Kelsey Lu is the type of person to wear a bright blue Molly Goddard dress in a studio session, one can expect something even more elaborate for her music videos. Like her latest new single” Shades of Blue . The nine-minute clip you'll find Lu sitting on a beach in a humble Icelandic sweater, walking around the deck of a ship in an orange dress, and dancing in casual streetwear (lime green shirt with a dark blouse and silky, wide pants).

Lu explained that she wrote the song when she was in a New Jersey factory, suffering from intense depression. “My life has been tapped in many different ways: musically, financially and, really, with a sense of soul,” she describes in a press release. “Yet I was writing a lot more and this song is a manifestation of that point in my life. For me, it was a glimpse of hope and peace from within that depression and I can only hope it will bring a similar moment of peace for the listener.” To fully communicate that paradox, the clothing in the video flashes between more muted and grounded moments, like that first shot of Lu in that Icelandic sweater.
