Disposable plastic ban in EU (July 3, 2021)
From July 3, 2021, there is a ban on disposable plastic
To reduce stray plastic, there is a ban on disposable disposable plastic (in the EU) as of 3 July 2021. These include plastic cups, snack trays, plastic cutlery, straws and balloons sticks for example.
Why then??
- It has been called very hard for years that something needs to be done about the plastic soup. The plastic in the oceans cause tremendous misery for animals and plants. Plastic doesn't dive, it's just getting smaller and smaller pieces that can cause a lot of damage. Coral reefs are full of plastic, animal plankton gets plastic inside, planktoneters (including large whales) get the small pieces inside (microplastic), and other marine creatures have their stomachs full of plastic, preventing them from absorbing nutrients and dying! The whole ecosystem
- Ultimately, the plastic ends up in our own food, and so it continues to accumulate more and more in the environment. Chemicals from the plastic are also released, and end up in the entire ecosystem, and therefore back to humans.
- Every year 11 million tons of plastic ends up in the sea.! Take a look at the many articles on the internet where this issue is discussed. Fortunately, the European Commission has the subject high on the agenda.
