The subject of debate for thousands of years has been the "ideal" body type for women. Curvaceous, fuller body types were once showcased in art and sculpture as the desired figure. Society celebrated thinner figures in the 20th Century, from the Twiggy era of the 60's to the supermodels of the 90's. Fuller busts, tiny waists, and shapely derrieres have become more pined for in recent years.
Before anyone attacks me for body shaming ... the objective of this #research is to get an understanding on the impact on #mentalhealth of Gen Z, and subsequently the #healthcare system, not to have my opinion displayed (if you'd like to comment on my post, please consider this, otherwise I will remove your comment)
Research* among Gen Z in the UK revealed the following:
โ๏ธ Nearly half of the survey participants say #socialmedia , filters, celebrities and reality TV are reasons for wanting to change appearance
โ๏ธ 1 in 4 wonโt upload a selfie without a filter or editing first
โ๏ธ Almost three-quarters of female Gen Z have considered cosmetic alterations
โ๏ธ Almost a third of Gen Zs feel โuglyโ & 1 in 6 โcanโt be intimate with someoneโ because of social media beauty standards .
The statistics on social media and body image are worrying, as they show a significant increase in the number of people with negative body image. This suggests that social media, celebrities and influencers have a profound influence on body image and people's self-esteem.
