His career was inspired by Elvis Presley in the early years. His group was first called The Drifters, but because there was already a band with that name in the US it became The Shadows. It was his permanent counseling group until 1969. Over 260 million records went over the counter from him. Cliff Richard starred in the films Serious Charge (1959), The Young Ones (1961), Summer Holiday (1963), Wonderful Life (1964) and Finders Keepers (1966).

He represented the United Kingdom twice at the Eurovision Song Contest with the songs Congratulations in 1968 and Power To All Our Friends in 1973, making him second and third place respectively.
