#PINGORUINE 😍 The pingoruin in Berghuizen originated in the last ice age, the Weichselien era, 75000-10000 years ago.In The Weichselien era reached Scandinavian landice Netherlands. The time and again freezing and thawing during the Weichselien era created ice hills or pingos. The name pingo comes from the Inuktitut, the language of the Eskimos, and means 'hill that grows.
The hamlet is located near the N375 between Ruinerwold and Koekange and has its own built-up area, but Ruinerwold must be mentioned when addressing. A number of houses are located on a small lake called “Gat van Berghuizen” (also known as “Trekgat”). This small lake is called pingoruin, a remnant from the ice ages. It is now a nature reserve owned by the Natuurmonumenten Association. Some of the houses are located on sandy paths around this nature reserve.
