The dreidel that its original name in Hebrew is sivivon, is a version similar to the game of the perinola, this toy is found in many European cultures and around the world in different Jewish communities.
Since this is one of the most common games of Chanukah, some will wonder what is janukah in the most common words I would define it as Jewish Christmas, which is actually the feast of lights, the Jews every year celebrate janukah on the 25th of the month of kislev this celebration lasts 8 days, in it we celebrate the Jewish victory when the Greeks tried to Hellenize the Jews and abolish their practices, a small group of Jews Maccabees, carried out a rebellion against them. Obtaining the victory they regained the Temple and returned to light the Menorah, the menora is the seven-armed candlestick which, by order of Hashem, that is to say whom we know as God, command Moses to be done and place it in the tabernacle and keep the lights lit in a container of pure oil this oil was olive, when they they achieved victory had oil that reached only to burn one day and miraculously burned for eight days, the eight days of Januca is the feast of miracles.
I forgot in Januca special dishes are prepared for dinner, all those who are fried Jewish versions of donuts among others, this feast is characterized by its meals with oils to remember the miracle of oil, the dishes must prepare them with olive oil preferably, because it has a symbolic meaning, which is already another topic, to explain.
This set is a rectangular perinola that on its four sides has written letters in Hebrew. Children play it by putting a bonche of chocolates and sweets in the center and giving a value to each letter, so that every time the dreidel is turned, they win or lose candy.
I love it when Januca arrives and listen to Rabbi every year reflect on the miracles of Januca and be able to share with the little ones this beautiful game.
Dreidel was the game that the Jews used to not forget their roots where they came from, when they lived times of persecution.
I love seeing children in their homes or in the synagogues playing with their dreidel and wish to become a girl once again and enjoy this exclusive game for children....
This is my little contribution of our Jewish culture with a game that in Christian culture they do not know and that have great value to us hope you enjoyed my post
