The tea plant is an evergreen of the Camellia family that is native to China, Tibet, northern India and Sri Lanka. The small leaf variety, known as Camellia sinensis, thrives in the cool, high mountain regions. According to an old Chinese saying, "superior tea comes from high mountains". The specific variety of tea plant and the way the leaves are processed after harvesting determine the type of tea.
Depending on the way the leaves are harvested and processed, the tea is categorized as green, black, and oolong tea powder. Green tea (unfermented), oolong tea (partially fermented), and black tea (fully fermented) are manufactured from the same tea plant.
According to the research, teas may help with cancer, heart disease, and diabetes; encourage weight loss, lower cholesterol, and bring about mental alertness. Tea also appears to have antimicrobial qualities.
