Earth's “Vital Signs” Are Weakening

#science Earth's “vital signs” are weakening, according to a statement released by a group of scientists who fear we are approaching climate “points of no return”.

Scientists are part of a platform of more than 14,000 experts who already called for a declaration of global climate emergency two years ago.

In their new text, published by BioScience magazine, the signatories state that governments have failed to address the causes of climate change, caused by the “overxplotation of the Earth”.

Of the 31 “vital signs” of the planet, including greenhouse gas emissions, glaciers thickness or deforestation, 18 have already reached worrying record levels, according to the text published in the journal BioScience.

“We have to react to the tests that show that we are heading towards climatic points of no return,” say specialists.

The authors call for rapid and radical actions in various sectors, such as the elimination of fossil energies, restoration of ecosystems, vegetarian food regimes and the search for a new growth model.
