Ecohumanism: 'It doesn't matter what I do'

The climate crisis is sometimes so overwhelming that it leads to paralysis. In a world of alarming messages, how do we convince ourselves and others to change our behavior? Knowing what is valuable, for yourself and for the Earth, offers perspective.
Man has long treated the Earth as a tool, and nature as something you can control. The bill for that view of the world is not bad and we are now being presented with. The Earth is warming at a record pace. Plant and animal species are disappearing. Soil is depleted due to exhaustion. The wry thing is that the very countries that have benefited the least from exploiting the Earth are paying the highest price. We have created a system of exploitation and injustice.

This awareness can be crippling. If the whole system needs to be different, what's the point of my small contribution? With the climate crisis, we are in danger of falling into laisser faire and the nihilistic “it doesn't matter what I do, right.“Step by step, our resilience is being affected.
