The correct posture for playing guitar is with a straight back, and the guitar tightly to your body. The roundness allows you to rest on your right leg, provided you are on the right. It doesn't make any difference whether you're sitting with your legs over each other or not. You hold your right hand against the cabinet of the guitar, and the movement of your right hand comes mainly from your wrist. You will be able to recognize many starting guitarists by their right hand, not only use their wrist when hitting the strings, but also the rest of the arm goes up and down, then in most cases you don't have to deal with a very experienced guitarist.

You use your left hand to press the strings on the ferrets. The palm of your left hand is tight against the neck of the guitar, with your thumb up, allowing you to put enough force with your four fingers to press the strings
