Fehu en Othilla zijn twee runes van het Oudere Futhark. Ze staan beide in zekere zin voor bezit, maar op hele andere manieren.

Fehu



Fehu staat letterlijk voor ''Vee'', die leuke diertjes die zulke fijne wol geven, en gezonde melk! En verder nog uitermate nuttige hoorns, om nog maar niet te spreken over de geweldige smaak van hun kadaver wanneer goed klaargemaakt.

Maar wat is de kracht achter het concept? Vergeet niet dat voor de vroege Germanen, vee de opsomming was van hun materiële welvaart. Een grote veestapel betekende veel sieraden (hoorns, bot etc.), veel bont en wol, en genoeg voedsel om veel mensen te onderhouden. Als je nog geen eigen geit had, was je echt een proleet, en als je een grote gezonde kudde had, was je kapitalist.

In modern gebruik word Fehu vaak gezien als een verwijzing naar materiële welvaart, om duidelijke redenen. Maar een bredere associatie betrekt energie erbij. Zoals het vlees van de os het lichaam voedt, voed energie de geest, in het kort gezegd. Er zijn veel mogelijke associaties bij Fehu te maken, het makkelijkste is waarschijnlijk om de bekende en geliefde Wanen Freya en Freyr te leren kennen. Zij lijken mij het meest verbonden met alle aspecten van Fehu.
