'El Silbón', a terrifying Venezuelan legend
THE SILBON. FEAR LEGEND
'El Silbón' is a very famous urban legend in Venezuela and Colombia. It tells of the terrible story of a young man who murdered his father and was condemned to wander like a specter, carrying his father's bones on his back.
A long time ago there lived in the area of the Llanos of Venezuela a young man who was married to a beautiful girl.
One day, the boy discovered his own father beating his wife. Enraged, he threatened his father with much violence. But his father, far from apologizing, said that his wife deserved it. This made his son, invaded by anger, begin to beat him.
Once he managed to push his father and pin him to the ground, he grabbed a stick and pressed it against his neck. The boy didn't let go until he realized that his father had stopped breathing.
At that moment the boy's grandfather (his father's father) arrived, and seeing what he had just done, decided to teach him a lesson: he tied him to a tree and gave him numerous lashes on the back.
Grandpa rubbed chili on his wounds, and then released him and a hungry dog to chase after him.
Since then, no one has seen him alive again. Some time later, the strange appearances of a specter began that always appeared at night, and that wandered like a lost soul. Many heard his whistles. Others said that he was carrying a huge sack on his back.
