The Coconut Tree (Cocos nucifera), is a species of palm trees in the Arecaceae family. That can grow about 30 meters. El Cocotero can be found on the shores of tropical sandy beaches of the Caribbean Sea, Indian Ocean and Pacific.

It is the emblematic tree of the state of Zulia. The leaves of this plant are large in size up to about 3 meters long. The flowers of the coconut tree are polygamomonoecious, with the male and female flowers in the same inflorescence. Its fruit, the coconut, contains the largest seed that exists

Coconut as a hardy seed, which spreads over long distances by sea currents. The plant does not tolerate cold, high altitudes, remoteness from the sea, hard soils and scarce salt.
