#Weetjenog - Monchhiti
The dolls are produced by the Sekiguchi corporation from Tokyo, Japan. Koichi Sekiguchi came up with the idea in the early 1970s to market a product that was meant to convey a message of Beauty and Love. After a number of prototypes, the final product was introduced into the market in 1974. The product proved to be a great success and worldwide demand for the monkeys rose. In order to continue to meet demand, the product was licensed in several countries by Mattel and Clipper.
In the mid-1980s monchhichi monkeys slowly disappeared from the European shelves, but worldwide the product has never completely disappeared. At the 30th anniversary of the toy line, the company introduced the Bebichhichi, a baby variant. Since 2006, Sekiguchi has its own European branch to restore the availability of the product.
