Europe comprises the westernmost peninsulas of Eurasia's continental landmass. It covers an area of about 10.18 million km2 which is about 2% of Earth's surface. Europe shares the continental landform of Afro-Eurasia with Asia & Africa. Europe is found entirely in the northern hemisphere & the main parts lie in the Eastern hemisphere. The term "Europe" is derived from Greek mythology and named after the Phoenician princess Europa. It is surrounded by water on the three sides & lies in temperate zones. It shares its borders with the Arctic Ocean on the northern side, the Mediterranean Sea on the southern side, Asia on the eastern side, and the Atlantic Ocean on the western side.
