Summer in France - day 12: Les Beaux de Provence and St. Rémy de Provence

Today we drive to two neighbouring Provence-towns. First we go to Les Beaux de Provence.

On top of a limestone are the remains of Château les Beaux.

Along both roads to the village you can only leave your car along the road, at payment parking lots. It's still quite a bit of climbing from the road.

The old village centre near the castle is worth a visit. Er zijn vele winkeltjes met streekproducten en bio-producten. Heel wat terrasjes en restaurants met schaduwrijke tuinen bieden genoeg aandacht voor de vele toeristen. All the way up you end up on the old village square.

Wie de ruïnes van het kasteel wil bezoeken, kan ook hier terecht.

In dit dorp werd ook bauxiet gewonnen, een aluminium-houdend mineraal. The quarry can be visited. (See careers de Lumières on the map above. You have to descend a bit back along the roadway.)

From here we drive to Saint Rémy de Provence, a real Provencal town with old buildings, squares in the shade of plane trees, fountains and many tourists.

There is a 'Vincent Van Gogh — paintings walking route' through the city. He stayed here for a while.

In this city is also the birthplace of Nostradamus.

And those who want to, can go outside the city for wine in all directions at the many caves.

Coincidentally, when we left the city, we also passed this waterfall along the canal.

You can follow a whole piece of this canal on foot.
