September 1990 Fred is going to show me Crete. We lived in Germany from 1967 to 1977.
Fred has been to Crete with the Air Force 7x.. But he saw Crete before it was discovered by the tourists. Nice stories he then came home that he ate fish with the Cretan on the beach etc. In their spare time they also saw a lot on Crete and he was going to show me that now.
He was shocked how his Crete stood now quite touristy.
We first made an 8 day tour with a rental car and then stayed a week in Rethymnon.
Nice windmills seen on the way to Lasithi. Well, those of me should be in the Netherlands.
Elounda we have been in that fishing village is the film “Who pays de Veerman” recorded. In that white tavern (see arrow) a large part played.
We go to the rock formations of Matala in these rock formations are the burrows that residents of the Stone Age used as homes. When Fred was there, the hippies were still walking around.
The Samaria gorge Fred has walked all the way now with me we have been a little bit in.
Very beautiful I must say.
And then of course Knossos that should not be missing. That's the palace of King Minos about 2600 BC.
On that alabaster throne of Minos, the priest king, of course, I had to sit. I had it as a miniature for a long time but unfortunately broken and no more gluing. Very unfortunate.
The week Rethymnon was super what a wonderful place is that our favorite terrace was at the port delicious fish eaten.
And then you heard tuf tuf tuf in the distance and the fishing boats came in. There was equal action on arrival.
Great to sit there really enjoy!!
