This song gives me goosebumps.

“Jersey Girl” was often played live by Bruce Springsteen and its E Street Band , and a live version appeared on the B side of the single” Cover Me “from 1984. Springsteen rewrote a number of lines: “whores on Eighth Avenue” was changed to “the girls out on the avenue” and added a verse about “that little brat of yours and drop her off at your mom's”.

A few weeks later, on August 24 at the Los Angeles Sports Arena, Waits took the stage to sing the song with Springsteen. Because Springsteen's version of “Jersey Girl” was often heard on the radio, it was often thought that it was written by him. In the end, it was less and less often played live: from the mid-90s, it was played no more than twenty times during his concerts.
