November 18, 2015 was the first European Day for the protection of children from sexual exploitation. This was an initiative of the Council of Europe, taking advantage of the One in Five campaign and the signing of the Lanzarote Convention.
Why is it celebrated?
This anniversary seeks to publicly expose the different types of violence and abuse that many children in Europe are subjected to, either at school, at home, within their circle of trust or by a complete stranger.
The idea is to raise alarms in the older population so that when they detect any strange sign, they can address the problem, prevent it or take legal action on the matter, if applicable.
Main objectives of this day against sexual exploitation of children
Increase public awareness: It is necessary that these types of topics cease to be taboo in society, because only by talking about them and understanding them can appropriate measures be taken to stop this type of abuse against children.
Open debates: Many children do not talk about the problem, because they consider that they are the only ones who suffer from it and even tend to think that the fault of what happens is theirs, but if the issue is discussed openly they are no longer stigmatized and expose the author of the abuses.
Implementation of the Lanzarote Convention: A legal document, unique in its style, which seeks that all countries that have signed it faithfully commit themselves, not only to combat sexual abuse of any kind in children, but also to take measures to prevent it and punish him harshly.
Famous films that address this problem
The seventh art has also sought a way to make the audience aware of this terrible reality. Some of the most famous titles are:
1. Children of the street.
2. The doubt.
3. Deliver us from evil.
4.Dark innocence.
5.Pretty.
6.Mea maximum fault.
7. The man of the forest.
8.Lolita.
9. Prohibited temptations.
10. Loss of innocence.
How to celebrate the European Day for the protection of children from sexual exploitation
One of the best ways to celebrate this day is by attending the many events that seek to sensitize and make people aware of this problem; and then become the spokesperson for all that knowledge.
Join this initiative, children deserve respect!
