#euthanasia Every day more countries in the world approve the application of Euthanasia.
This Tuesday Chile joins this list with the approval of a law on "dignified death” or euthanasia for over 18 years of age.
Since 2014, the bill would have been introduced to parliament to make it legality for a patient with terminal illness to decide how to end his or her life.
This right shall be provided by persons with incurable, irreversible and progressive diseases and who do not respond positively to treatment.
The project of dignified death approved by 114 parliamentarians goes beyond euthanasia. Dignified death gives the affected person the possibility of having a death that respects their dignity, whatever the person prefers, usually is not to be alone and that is painless.
Some requirements for Chileans or foreign residents is to be over 18 years of age and to be aware at the time of applying, is a project that gives the freedom to choose how to die.
Chile has always been a conservative country, but in recent years laws have been passed that had been discussed for a long time, such as therapeutic abortion, same-sex civil union and now euthanasia.
