Catdistemper, also known as feline panleukopenia or cat parvo, is a serious and often fatal viral disease that mainly affects young cats and kittens. The disease is caused by the feline panleukopenia virus (FPV), a highly contagious virus that belongs to the parvovirus family.

Causes and distribution

The feline panleukopenia virus is extremely resistant and can survive in the environment for months to even years. The virus spreads through direct contact between cats, but also through contaminated objects such as food bowls, toys and clothing. Even people can spread the virus by carrying it on their hands or clothes after contact with an infected cat.
