In the villages of Khudi, Ghanpokhara and Ghaleghau, Gurungs(a Mongolian community of nepal and also known for their bravery) harvest a honey from wild bee having psychedelic effects known as 'Mad Honey'. These wild bees have their hives in corner of sheer drop cliffs and require pure bravery to harvest it with traditional ropes and techniques.

The honey gets its psychedelic properties from pollens of Rhododendron species. These flowers are in full bloom during April in Nepal and the honey is harvested twice in spring and autumn. Many tourists visit every year to buy mad honey or to experience the hunt of mad honey in Nepal.

These honey shouldn't be consumed on high quantities as they contain grayanotoxins. These toxins can create extreme nausea, hypersalivation, perspiration, dizziness and weakness.

Read more about its effects on the wiki article below: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grayanotoxin

The blog cannot describe all the aspects of these honey hunting and so here are some videos that show the extreme bravery and lifestyle of these Mad Honey Hunters of Nepal. There are many videos of these brave hunters and you can check all of them out searching 'Mad honey hunters Nepal'.
