Experience with a knife in your belly
'I pulled the knife out of my stomach and smiled.That's how Debbie begins her story against Karel, the policeman sitting at her hospital bed. Her mother is tense at the foot end.
The other night, Debbie had gone out with her friends Shanie and Isabella. At first, the fat was cool. Relax together at the hangout in the city. But when they later sat at the bar, the atmosphere suddenly changed. A group of guys came around and made obscene gestures. The girls didn't like their language either.
That's why Debbie kindly asked the boys to leave them alone. Then one of them pulled a knife out of nowhere and stabbed her in the belly. As numb and totally stunned, she pulled the knife out of her belly as I said.
Karel listens to her story with growing amazement and makes notes. 'But did you feel any pain at all?', he asks her. If possible, Debbie's answer surprises him even more: 'Yeah, but I also knew there was nothing serious going on.'
