He was the eldest of the five children of the marriage formed by Pierre Verne, who came from a family linked to jurisprudence (his grandfather was a notary advisor to Louis XV and president of the Nantes Bar Association), and Sophie Allotte de la Fuÿe, belonging to a military family.
In 1847 he began his law studies in Paris and became a lawyer in 1849, which is why his father allows him to stay in Paris. Meanwhile he would continue writing theater. Despite the wishes of his father who wanted him to dedicate himself to his law career and in the face of the threat of taking away his funding, Verne is still not interested in continuing that work. And now without his father's financing, he spends all his savings on books and spends long hours in the Paris libraries wanting to know everything: studying geology, engineering and astronomy, knowledge with which he would later document his fantastic adventures and predict with astonishing accuracy many of the scientific achievements of the twentieth century. I would talk about space rockets, submarines, helicopters, air conditioning, guided missiles and moving images, long before these inventions appeared.
It was not until 1869 that he would publish his first novel "Five Weeks on the Globe", an overwhelming success, thanks to which he signed a splendid contract with the publisher PJ Hetzel, which would guarantee him an annual amount of 20,000 francs for the next twenty years, in exchange for what which, would be forced to write two novels of a new style each year. Then other novels followed the author's great production: "Journey to the center of the earth" (1864), "From the earth to the moon" (1865), and "20,000 Leguas de viaje submarino" (1870). The last novel before his death was "The invasion of the sea".
Famous for his fantastic adventure stories, always narrated with a tone of scientific verisimilitude, in which he describes, with an almost prophetic vision, a multitude of scientific achievements, inventions and discoveries after his time.
He was considered the precursor of a new literary genre, science fiction.
He died in 1905 in the city of Amines.
His works are famous throughout Europe. He is known as the creator of the science fiction genre, and his most mentioned works are: "Journey to the center of the Earth", "Five weeks in a balloon", "20,000 leagues of underwater travel", "Around the world in 80 days "And" The mysterious island. "
