Face In The Book

The magic of Around Face is that it does it with a singularly easy, fun-loving flair. It is an engaging book, one I believe is going to hook readers through its uncommon style. About Face is an extremely readable, helpful, and entertaining book filled with a lot of thought-provoking discussions and ideas. About Face... is, I think, an indeed important book that can go a long way toward reversing the extremities of sociobiological reductionism.



About Face is an extraordinary book, the first full-spectrum study of face, and an engaging book that brings together clinical and human, biological and cultural, in a wholly original way. A compelling tour de force of tension, mystery, and miracle discovery, this seasons page-turner is the rare novel that is simultaneously entertaining, provocative, and exhilarating. You would have to be dehumanized to not feel moved by some of the stories told about the face.



We are likely captivated by That Face, which re-enacts, as it does, so many of the tropes of Western white boyhood. We are forcing something onto that face, not knowing very much about it at all. The face--whether we like it or not--is absolutely connected with who we are, and to whom we think others are.



In fact, a persons face is one of the first things that your child will learn to recognize. That is why I designed this high-contrast, friendly face book specifically for babies.



The problem with pictures of faces, Helfand so poignantly illustrated, is that whoever took the pictures is almost always missing. Helfand, with personal anecdotes, has built up the history of what this picture could mean, of what these faces could be telling us. Telling a story about faces, Helfand makes clear, necessarily means telling a story about personal as well as collective identities.



Mooallem has a real talent for conjuring places, people, and emotions, and the individuals that Mooallem writes about give human faces to big issues like climate change and environmental protection. In his latest book, the Times Magazines [Jon] Mooallem Writer-at-Large collects a diverse dozen of his thoughtful, probing essays. That is, this book really serves up a kind of essential theoretical truth, for anyone needing a refresher on how the Thinkers (Merleau-Ponty, Wittgenstein, Levinas, Deleuze, and Guattari) thought of face.



Images of faces have always been widespread, and even illegally distributed; much more so now. Those who produced, distributed, and manipulated images of the face are harder to locate.

We know, though, if Children With Cotton Candy lived past this point, that their faces would have changed, likely drastically. Some people, either because they are impatient or because they want to keep up with fashion, adopt new faces well before their old ones are worn, much like people purchase new clothes even if the ones they are wearing barely fit.



Children would put on a face like they had to grow into, something that was not going to fit for years. With difficulties, these kinds of girls would wear their new faces as destiny had decreed, and would be dazed looking down on their feet, so far away had grown so much in one night. They slept, their faces were vacant and serene, not having to be used again till the morning.



In the mirror, his face looked exhausted and used, like an old glove. Gitte pressed her elbows against her knees, and rested her face on her palms. To the end of her days, she would carry that face around like some old sin, which no amount of contrition would ever erase.
