On our trip through Iceland, we have walked a lot. Iceland is a great hiking country, if you have good footwear and good shoes. Before you leave, remember that Iceland is volcanic and you will often walk on lava. And lava skirts can be very sharp. I certainly don't recommend walking on slippers or thin shoes. I've been wearing mountain shoes throughout the holiday, and sometimes felt the sharp edges of the lava through the soles.

We found the walk I describe in the Rother hiking guide Iceland (ISBN: 978-90-389-2549-3.

In this walking guide you will find many walks throughout the island. The walks are divided by heaviness, blue walks are easy, black walks pretty spicy.

We are in north-eastern Iceland, near Pórshofn. When you follow road 85, the car park where the walk starts with a sign “Raudanes” is indicated.
