As a host parent of children between 0 and 13 years old, I use themes during the reception days. I often compose these themes myself, because I really like to see the reactions of the children when they are doing an assignment that I made up myself, full of enthosiasm. From 24-08-2020 until 20-09-2020 we will be working on the theme: “Flashing Lights” These fire brigade writing exercises are one of the assignments I will offer to children from 3 years old.

The pen grip is immediately taught, so that they already have a head start in the kindergarten. Here is also practiced with quiet, concentrated and precise work. Not all the children of 3 years will do this right, but that's why they're also exercises. By offering these fire brigade writing exercises at an early age, children become less demotivated in kindergarten if something does not work out, because they have already learned to deal with that sometimes it is not possible to follow a line at once. Even if only the first cm goes well, praise the child that he has done so well and try again at a later time. It's up to you as an educator, parent, grandparent and even teacher to teach the child to be sure of himself and to show that it's okay if something doesn't go well at once.
