This rather large damselfly (33-36 mm) is recognizable by the red rear body with black markings.
Fire damselfers can often be found in sheltered places in riverside vegetation and shrubs.

The fire damselfly can only be confused with the coral damselfly. However, the fire damselfly has black legs and in the coral damselfly the legs are orange. Also, the fire damselfly is firmer and flies earlier in the year.
