Also known as the Trooping inkcap or Retro inky the Firerug inkcap is named for one of its more distinctive features. We can usually find this species growing alonside an above-ground, mycelial mat called an "ozonium"🤓 The ozonium takes on a fuzzy, orange appearance, thus the name "firerug". This species can be found in temperate habitats across much of Europe, parts of North America and now Limpopo, South Africa🤩🤯😁Habitat : The firerug inkcap appears in woodlands and disturbed urban areas, but can also be seen in damp basements and bathrooms. It is fond of growing on wood chips, compost, decaying wood and vegetable debris. Unfortunately this mushroom is toxic and ingestion can lead to a series of symptoms.
