Indian startup Avant Garde Innovations has developed a low cost wind turbine that can generate 3-5 kW hours of electricity per day.

Shortly after taking office, Prime Minister Pinarayi Vijayan of the South Indian State of Kerala caused a shock wave by public expressing support for the Athirappilly hydroelectric project.

A project that environmentalists claim would be disrupted to ecological equilibrium and destroy the Athirappilly Falls, the largest waterfalls in the state.

It's not that the government is unaware of the impact this project could have,

but she claims she has no other choice to deal with the current energy crisis in Kerala.

The energy sector is partly privatised.
