Following confirmation of McLarens Formula E entry, there are some outstanding accounts on how the team is set up for Season 9, which is set to kick off the Generation 3 era. The FIA and Formula E released the official confirmations for manufacturers to participate starting with the inaugural Gen3 season. Formula E has confirmed seven manufacturers are signed on to their Generation3 era, which will introduce the most capable electric cars in the championships history.

Plans

Formula E plans to run fully electric Gen3 cars for 2023, the revolutionaries ninth season of street racing. Porsche

Porsche has unveiled their all-electric Formula E Gen3 racing car at their Weissach test track. Seven automotive manufacturers have registered their intention to run new Gen3 cars in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, debuting next season. Formula E announced that seven manufacturers from seven countries had signed up to supply the Gen3 cars for the ninth season of the series, set to begin in 2023. Seven of the worlds leading carmakers signed with Federation Internationale de lAutomobile (FIA) to compete in new Gen3 cars, debuting next season in ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

Federation de Automobile

Formula E and the Federation Internationale de lAutomobile (FIA) unveiled the new Generation 3 Formula E racing cars on Thursday, debuting in the 9th ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in 2022-23. Audi Sport

After a tough first half of the inaugural season, Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler improved during the second half, passing Techeetah at the last race to take the team championship by two points. Andre Lotterer followed him across the line to take second, making a clinch perfect for Porsche in their third Formula E race of the season. His teammate Andre Lotterer, in the final race of the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team season, did not reach the end.

99 x Electric

The team fielded two Porsche 99x Electric racing cars in their last race of the season -- one for driver Pascal Wehrlein (GER/#94 ), who claimed Porsches first Formula E win this year in Mexico City, and one for his teammate Andre Lotterer. The Four Rings, who have recently announced their withdrawal from World Endurance Championship racing, are the only German-based team competing in Formula E (under the official name of ABT Schaeffer Audi Sport).

DS

DS confirmed it would be joining forces not only with Penske Autosport to form a DS Penske Formula E team, but that two-time champion Jean-Eric Vergne and defending champion Stoffel Vandoorne would be racing for the team in 2023. One last note related to Formula E is the announcement from Mercedes-Benz that they are leaving Europes DTM Championship to join 2017s Electric Car Racing Series for 2019-20. The German giants, Mercedes, Audi, and BMW, are leaving Formula E, and while this does not necessarily cause a crisis, as privateer teams and the new factory entry of Maserati will step into the void, it does make a major change. DS Automobiles, Jaguar, Mahindra Racing, Maserati, NIO 333, Nissan and Porsche AG are all locked into Formula E Gen3, while the giant German marques Mercedes, BMW and Audi are all leaving the series at the end of the current season.

Six Manufacturers

So far, seven manufacturers have committed to Formula E; that is seven manufacturers. Six current manufacturers will transition into Generation III cars, and Italian manufacturer Maserati joins Formula E for the first time. From the beginning of the 2015-16 Formula E season, eight manufacturers will enter the series, redesigning and building their own power units for the SRT_01E. From the 2015/2016 Season, Formula E will be a non-title-based league, which allows manufacturers to implement their own internal innovations, starting with development of custom-built power units.

Jamie Reigle, CEO of Formula E, welcomed the commitment from seven manufacturers for the future of Formula E, with Jamie Reigle believing that third-generation cars will bring road racing to a whole new level.
