The following week, after a grand shopping trip with the rest of her family (and Jacob), Renesmee was ready to begin her new life. On Monday, she was going to join the local public school. But before that, she was about to be introduced to the world of singing in a vocal group. Had anyone told her about any of her plans, she would have simply dismissed their words as complete nonsense and continue staring at her phone all day long, chatting with Theo or scrolling down her feed on social media, being unproductive.

Renesmee found the drive to the local leisure centre, where the vocal group would meet every Saturday, to be long and exhausting. She couldn't wait to learn how to operate a vehicle by her choice. She was debating whether to get an electrical scooter or a longboard. A car sounded cool, but she enjoyed the fresh air and loathed the traffic jams with a burning passion.

"Remember to be yourself and to have fun," Bella reminded before leaning to give a kiss to her daughter.

"I know, Mom," the hybrid murmured before saying her goodbyes to her parents with quick kisses and hugs and strolled to the building, her arms crossed over her chest. She couldn't deny that she felt nervous - it was part of who she was, as a person. She would never admit it, but there was a part of her that sought approval from the others.

It took Renesmee some time to find the room where the lessons were behind held. And when she finally found it, inside, a group of mostly adolescents had gathered, chatting eagerly. Renesmee almost hesitated to join them, but she quickly reminded herself that there was nothing to be afraid of and that these people were just young people with dreams, like her.

She stood next to a dark-haired girl, who looked the same physical age as her and just as she was about to introduce herself to her, an adult, presumably the vocal teacher entered the room and instructed everybody to make a circle, before doing the routine check-up of who was there and who wasn't.

"Melissa Hatzi?", the vocal teacher called, checking whether everyone who had signed up was present.

The young girl standing next to Renesmee perked up and raised her hand, exclaiming that she was there.

The hybrid could tell that she was the next on the list by the look of confusion on the vocal teacher's face. Her younger self would have blushed from embarrassment, but as time had gone by, she had learnt to simply laugh it off and joke. After all, there were more peculiar names than her and there would always be.

"It's Renesmee!", she called from her place and snickered awkwardly alongside everybody else.

The vocal teacher nodded awkwardly and moved on.

With that, Renesmee turned to Melissa and introduced herself, extending her hand the way she had been taught by her family.

"You can call me Mel," Melissa added, shaking Renesmee's hand.

Their conversation couldn't go on for much longer. Soon began the vocal exercises and everybody had to shift their focus.

Renesmee had spent the entire break by Mel's side. In no time, she had learnt what her current favourites were.

"Do you go to Timber Creek?", the hybrid asked, her eyes full of hope. It would be lovely if that was the case - then maybe she wouldn't be so lonely on her first day the next week.

Mel shook her head, "My brother and I, we go to Green Valley."

Renesmee saddened. She suddenly regretted joining the public school instead of the charter one.

For the rest of the class, she was sharing laughs and having fun with people, who could potentially become her new best friends. She could already see herself having a close relationship with Mel - her first-ever friend she had found herself without the need of any supernatural mumbo jumbo. And she couldn't help but be proud of herself.
