Farmer hates Remembrance Day and leaves inverted flags
A cattle farm in Marum, Groningen, will also hold the inverted flag on 4 May. Dozens of blue, white and red flags remain in the yard, while there is a monument nearby where, on Thursday, 16 resistance fighters, including a 13-year-old boy, were executed during the war. This is what the Dagblad van het Noorden writes.

“We're really not taking them all away for one day,” farmer Van der Heide tells the newspaper. “For us, there is still no freedom, let alone joy. I think that the people who died in wars for our freedom would turn around in their graves if they knew what is happening to us in the Netherlands now.” A neighbour has now removed his inverted flags. “The elections have been held and it's May 4 this week,” he says.

Last week, the relatives of fallen Dutch soldiers called for the flags to be hung properly again. “For us, it's painful to see that flag hanging upside down. Our child, parent, partner, brother/sister came home in a coffin under that same flag. Lost their lives in the service of the Dutch people. For your peace and democracy.
