#BRAND 🤓 Fire in the former Roman Catholic #St Stephanuskerk at the Zuideinde in Meppel:
August 11, 1965.
The fire had major consequences for the Meppeler community, because a new shelter had to be found, because the new building of the church on the Great Oever was not completely finished.
On March 26, 1961, exactly a century after the founding of the St. Stephanusparochie in Meppel, pastor Jan van Daatselaar laid “the first stone” for the new St. Stephen's Church on the Great Bank in Meppel. In this first stone a lead tube was stowed away with a certificate.
In 2007 a new church at the Commissioner de Vos van Steenwijklaan in Meppel was commissioned together with the Protestant Municipality of Meppel.
