The Platypus and the Anteater
These two mammals are ranked among the Monotremes and are still found in South Australia. They perpetuate their offspring by laying eggs. Just like the birds and reptiles still do today. Yet the development of the fetus in their eggs is different than in the reptiles.
Because the animals that break their way out into the outside world are still weak and cannot immediately work independently.
