A have 5 Cape Gooseberry bushes in different parts of my garden. I googled quickly to check for other names, so maybe you might know it as a golden berry plant. I picked up a gooseberry once while walking in a garden in the city, when I got home I broke it in half and put it in a pot, surprisingly it just grew and grew. I replanted it into the ground and it looks more like a tree than a bush sometimes. From that one gooseberry which provided me with so many other berries, I was able to plant more bushes, all grown just from the tiny seeds in just one berry.
My husband and kids don't like them at all, too bitter for them, I on the other hand like fruit with a bit of a tangy taste. So I am not growing all these bushes to feed the family as such, I just find it so beautiful. How it changes from just a little bud, to flowers, to a berry and then once it falls off the plant how it continues to change, until it's little shell is completely see through and you can see that beautiful golden orange berry.
