What a conversation Destiny had just had with her ex-boyfriend Keith! Short, simple, yet she had learned so much. She was feeling better, less conflicted now. That was what talking to people did.
But she didn't know what a big talk was expecting her.
Later on, Riley had invited everyone to gather at her place. They were in the girl's bedroom, sitting around the infamous bay window where problems were being discussed and help was being found when needed. And today was going to be an important day for the gang. The day they were going to truly meet their friend.
"Tell us about yourself, Destiny. We want to know," Riley encouraged with a friendly smile, that looked more sugary than an actual friendly smile would look like.
Destiny suddenly felt shy, just like on her first day of school. She hated that question. What was there to know about her? She was just a girl. Well, with a slightly darker background story. But still. Just. A. Girl. Nothing more, nothing less.
"Well..." she tried to speak, feeling all eyes on her. Her habit of fidgeting with her fingers had come back. She thought it had gone away when she had moved to New York.
To help her, everyone began asking questions which anyone would find rather uncomfortable and too personal to be answered:
"Tell us about your family."
"Yeah, why do you never talk about them?"
"Why are you always so shy and quiet?"
"Why did you fidget with your hands? Is there something wrong?"
"Why are you so worrying? There's nothing to be worried about!"
"Why don't you open up more? You're a nice girl."
Destiny couldn't listen anymore to the questions pouring from their mouths like heavy rain. She hated the rain. She had to do something. She couldn't stand feeling crucified anymore.
So she stood up sharply from her seat. "Enough!"
They went silent, having never heard her raise her voice like that. The quiet mouse wasn't that quiet anymore. She wanted to scream, to shout. To break vases and to shatter the glass on the floor. Like every teen out there in the world. Riley Matthews would have to understand that she couldn't always get everything she wanted in this life. She had to be put in her place.
"What. Are. You. Trying. To. Do?", Destiny was gritting her teeth. She was attempting to put the pieces of the puzzle in her head, trying to figure out what was going on. There was something fishy since day one, but she couldn't quite realize what it was. She just needed some more time. Or clues.
