On the next day, Destiny had woken up earlier than the previous one, remembering that she had forgotten to write a letter. She wrote letters, addressed to the destiny, just like her late mother had done once. It helped her wind down after a tough day and to connect with her late mother and the only thing left by her.
Destiny was so caught up in her little hobby. One could smack her on the head and she would feel no pain. Writing the letter was her only escape.
"You're so much like your mother," a voice broke her out of her trance. Her father.
Destiny quickly turned around and let out a little gasp. Maximilian chuckled and came to her.
His daughter wasn't used to his nice intentions quite yet.
"Dad, thank you," she smiled at him. It felt so nice to have someone to call "dad". If anyone had told her six months ago what her life would be now, she wouldn't have believed him.
Maximilian smiled at her and left her to get ready.
"Breakfast is omelettes!", he exclaimed, having not left the room yet.
Finally, alone, Destiny went to the bathroom to start doing her makeup. The previous night she had watched makeup tutorials and practised to learn a new skill. She had noticed how the girls around her, even Sarah, wore at least a little bit of makeup. Thank god, Maximilian had bought her some as a gift.
Finally satisfied with her look, Destiny slipped on a polka dot skirt and a dip-dyed pullover. New York was the description of "sweater weather" for her.
She started braiding her hair in a classic braid, which she had recently learned how to do
She started braiding her hair in a classic braid, which she had recently learned how to do. She had never known how to do her hair, no one had taught her anything as a child.

Ready for school, she grabbed her backpack and went to have a nice breakfast with her father.
"How is school?" , he asked, interested. He wanted his daughter to feel as comfortable as possible in the new place. He had so much to make up for. His lack of knowledge about her existence mainly and for not noticing the signs of maltreatment in the family in which Destiny had grown up.
With her mouth full, Destiny hurried to answer: "It's great, dad. There's this girl—"
He chuckled again. "Slow down!"
Destiny hadn't even had the chance to tell him about Sarah. She wasn't sure if she wanted to talk to him about Riley and her friends. She wasn't planning on becoming a part of the group.
She was nervous about seeing the gang in the subway. She had heard at school that they used it. At what time did they take it? From which stop?
So she preferred to avoid public transport and instead trust her own feet to take her to school. A thirty-minute walk. But totally worth it. Plus, she got to listen to the radio on her new phone. She was slowly discovering music she had never heard about before. The disadvantages of social isolation.
At school, Destiny hurried to her locker, afraid to meet them. She had planned to avoid them as much as possible without seeming rude. People were already noticing her too much because she was a new student and was supposedly a friend of theirs.
If only they knew . . .
New plans were interrupted, as soon as Destiny grabbed her books from her locker and turned around to go to her class.
There stood them.
"Hi, Destiny!"
