The author's identity is unknown, he was probably a doctor and lived in Ephesus, where there were several groups of followers of Jesus, both Jewish and Gentile.

The author knows the church of Antioch well and uses Paul's terms. It is believed that Luke, after learning the gospel of Matthew, decided not to take it as a basis, but to return to the sources of his predecessor: the gospel of St Mark and the Source Q. The exquisite Greek he uses and his knowledge of the Greek Bible indicate that he was a Jew of the Diaspora or a proselyte, a Gentile convert who had been attending the synagogue for years. His originality consisted of writing his work in two volumes. Warmly narrated, it includes numerous parables.

He is the only one who narrates in detail the youth of Jesus, in fact he is the evangelist who shows the most human Jesus.
