More than half of the Dutch believe in something supernatural. Possessed by the devil, contact with the dead, faith in graphology, reincarnation, astrology, leprechauns and elvesRelatively many people believe in clairvoyance. More than half of the Dutch believe in something supernatural. But they were less than 40 years ago. In most paranormal phenomena, the belief has more than halved.


The Skepsis Foundation , which questions extraordinary claims, had the University of Amsterdam and research firm Kieskompas conduct a poll into paranormal belief among a representative group of 2,511 Dutch people. The results were compared with a 1985 survey, with mostly the same questions. In most paranormal cases, faith has more than halved. The phenomena questioned ranged from everyday superstitions such as lucky numbers and the danger of going under a ladder to categories such as supernatural beings and semi-religious issues such as reincarnation or possession by the devil.
