The moment I pull a carton of semi-skimmed milk out of the fridge of the dairy corner, I unexpectedly hear a frightening, hysterical scream. In shock, I drop the carton of milk into my car and, with my hand still extended, I look like I'm frozen for a moment. The screams continue and are now coming from multiple throats. It comes from near the supermarket's wine and cheese department. Then, as if someone had clipped their fingers, I suddenly thaw out of my frozen position. With an accelerating pace and with front wheels swinging back and forth violently, I push my car in the direction of the scream, curious about what's going on.

Because of my speed, more gliding than running, I slide around the corner with my car near the detergents and can barely avoid another customer staring at a shocking scene at the cheese counter, frozen in shock and with her hand over her mouth.

Victims at the cheese counter

In front of the cheese counter display, two men lie motionless on the ground with their eyes wide open. A third person, a woman with long dark blonde hair wrapped in a distinctive short denim skirt, is collapsing in front of the cheese counter. In her hand, she holds an untouched block of Emmenthal cheese with a stick with a USA flag. The cube of cheese rolls away under the display case when the woman falls to the ground across the men.

Alarmed by the screams, the supermarket manager now also walks up in a hurry in the distance. As soon as he sees a number of customers lying motionlessly on the floor in front of the cheese counter, he grabs his mobile phone to call the emergency number. The whole scene seems unreal to me. Because what's happening here isn't something you should expect in a supermarket so directly, right?
