Let Her Go by #Passenger

Why is it that my #heart bleeds every time I listen to you? Why is it you make sense to me when hundreds of songs have failed to do so?

Passenger, you created a ballad, a ballad that has entranced millions around the world, a ballad that has found its way into the hearts of dreamers and poets alike, and I guess a heartfelt thank you is in order. .
“You see her when you close your eyes
Maybe one day you’ll understand why
Everything you touch surely dies”

You talk about a curse, a curse inflicted by love, a curse that is inevitable. Love tears down boundaries, writes fables of grandeur, and yet, in its wake, leave a trail of broken hearts and unanswered questions. Such is the power of love.

“Well, you only need the light when it’s burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love her when you let her go.”

I have to admit, I’ve spent countless nights cursing you for writing these lyrics. Oh, and these lyrics, no matter how hard I try, like a broken tape recorder, I keep on singing them, albeit with a horrible voice.

How are you able to understand the pain of someone who has let it all go? Have you ever parted with someone, only to drown in regret? Who am I kidding? These lyrics come at a high price, a price that I’m sure you’ve already paid. These lyrics remind me of a traveller who, in his thirst to experience life, always ends up leaving things too early. Who, in his impatience, forgets to adore beauty, only to realise that what he was searching for was always within his grasp.
And by the time he realises, it usually ends up being too late.

Are you that traveller? Or are you singing this, so that the traveller in us may finally find some solace?

Let her go is like the eastern wind, who with its warm embrace finds its way into my heart, and yet in its wake leaves the perpetual frost of the harsh truth.

Passenger, you have truly woven magic, and that is no ordinary feat. Thank you.
