Here we go again: Whether or not nuclear energy
Proponents consider nuclear energy to be safe, sustainable and necessary to combat climate change. Opponents consider the technology unnecessary and unsafe: because of the radioactive waste and the risk of serious accidents, such as the 2011 accident in Japan's Fukushima after an earthquake.
Is nuclear energy an option?
While existing nuclear plants are closing in Germany, France and England, the Netherlands is actually thinking about building new nuclear power plants to achieve the climate goals. Proponents think construction is a good idea because nuclear energy generation does not release greenhouse gases. Opponents point to the high costs and danger of nuclear waste. Why are we so afraid of nuclear energy?
