Well, a new phase has begun. 11 years old and you're about to make a big choice for the course of your school career: choosing High School! A new phase has begun.
I have to say that I'm actually not sure how my choice went anymore. In any case, the nearest school and I also remember that we only went to that secondary school with a total of 4 children (read 3 groups 8). So very little. The two of us went to the Mavo and two children went to Havo/Vwo. And of course, I had nothing to do with that boy who also came along and came into my classroom. The first day, we sat at a table side by side, but I had seen him before. But that was it. Exciting at the start, but that was soon over. My secondary school had a separate small location for 1st and 2nd year students. Only in the 3rd did you go to the “big” building.
Anyway, that was then. Now is now and are we watching for our daughter! But what do you base your choice on? First of all, of course, on the advice given from school. With this advice, you can already write off a number of schools that do not offer your child's level of advice. Even though, after the cancellation, after receiving double advice, there were still a lot of schools left. The schools that lie on the other side of the city are already falling for us. Not that these schools are not good, but in our view they are massive and we also have good options closer.
We visited the websites of the remaining schools and looked at the options for each school. For example, there is a free school that tries to strengthen the children's talents and interests, but I also think it's important that it opts for lessons that she finds difficult. I think that at this school, she would rather go for what she likes and what is easy for her and pays less attention to what she finds more difficult. We think this school won't suit our little lady very well, so for now, the open day postponed to early next year. It is currently already busy with all the Covid catch-up things, that we are going to take a targeted look at them. One of the remaining schools offers all levels of education. This also makes this school an enormously large school. We both think that this will not be the match with the little lady. Here she will be overrun quickly and it is hard to find peace. So let's also leave this school alone.
So two schools left. Last week, we visited the open day at both schools. And that opened up a world for her at both schools. She found it very interesting to watch the schools. Her attention was therefore mainly focused on new courses that she will receive. Both schools had plenty of things ready in the classrooms to show how fun the subjects are (and of course not everything will be equally fun, she is also aware of that). She got a good impression of both schools, of the building, of the subjects and, for her, of the sports facilities -).
