Hiking Through the Hills and Hilarity of Sallandse Heuvelrug

The Netherlands has hills?
Now, if you're a seasoned hiker, you might be thinking that a walk through the Sallandse Heuvelrug sounds like a gentle saunter through a meadow. But let me tell you, my friend, that would be a mistake. The Sallandse Heuvelrug is not for the faint of heart.
For starters, the name itself is a bit of a mouthful.
You'll find yourself tongue-tied and stumbling over the syllables more than once. And once you actually get started on your walk, you'll quickly realize that the terrain is just as challenging as the name.
The Sallandse Heuvelrug is home to some of the steepest hills in the Netherlands.
That's right, hills. You might be forgiven for thinking that the Netherlands is a flat, pancake-like country, but the Sallandse Heuvelrug will quickly dispel that notion. And if you're not careful, those hills will have you huffing and puffing like the big bad wolf.

Amazing nature
But don't worry, the view from the top is definitely worth it. You'll be rewarded with stunning vistas of the surrounding countryside, including rolling hills, lush forests, and maybe even a few curious cows.
Of course, the wildlife isn't always quite so friendly.
You might encounter the occasional snake or spider on your walk, and if you're really unlucky, you might even stumble upon a family of wild boars. Don't worry, they're generally harmless (unless you happen to be a tasty truffle), but it's always wise to give them a wide berth just in case.
But perhaps the greatest challenge of walking in the Sallandse Heuvelrug is navigating the trails.
