Today I share a little bit about the history of sewing, the simple fact of knowing the roots of this beautiful work, currently used as a hobby as well. It makes me value sewing machines and all the technology we have now.

Sewing is an art that is more than 20,000 years old
Stitching is the method used to join two or more fabrics together by perforating them and intertwining them with a thread through them. In pre-industrial times this was done by hand, using needle and thread, sewing machines are currently used.

The first sewing needles were made of animal bones or horns, and the first threads were made of animal tendons or vegetable fibers.
We may think that these objects were invented when humanity began to use the skins of the animals it hunted, but the real story is something different.

At first, humans learned to cover his body using large animal skins, which he could wrap around his body using other strips of skin or tendons.

As time went by, man learned to use threads and strings to sew smaller pieces and thus take advantage of the skins of small animals, such as rabbits, foxes, ferrets, etc. At this stage, humanity also learned to sew fur for other uses, such as bags, tents, water containers, etc.

Logically, needles were needed strong and sharp enough to pierce the thick skins. Strikingly, the original design of the first needles continues to this day, with changes that have improved the materials and design of those used today.
