During colonial times, various military constructions were built on Margarita Island, allowing the island to be defended against attacks by pirates or privateers. And the communication between the ports of Juan Griego, Pampatar and Porlamar, the 3 main cities with the greatest economic life of the time.
Among these buildings are two castles.
The Santa Rosa Castle.
The Castle of San Carlos de Borromeo.
And two forts: The Fort of La Caranta and the Fort of La Galera. Nowadays, all these buildings can be visited, allowing you to discover stories full of intrigue linked to the history of the colony and independence and enjoy spectacular views of the Caribbean Sea.
